Race Day Dress Code

What is the dress code for a man to wear for a day at the races?

The dress code for men at a day at the races depends on the enclosure you shall be visiting on the day.

Usually the more you pay for your race day ticket, then the more formal the dress code becomes for gentlemen at the event.
The strictest race day dress code for men applies to spectating gents situated in the Members Club or Premier Enclosure.

A smart jacket and tie are suitable for the men unless it is a special occasion like the Royal Ascot, which usually calls for men to wear a formal morning suit which consists of a morning coat , morning trousers , waistcoat and a top hat if in the Royal Enclosure. A suit and tie is required in the Queen Anne Enclosure and for the Windsor Enclosure there is no dress code as such although there are certain garments prohibited from being worn. Read our dedicated Royal Ascot dress code guide for more info.

For the Tattersalls, Grandstand or Paddock Enclosure dress code usually requires the men in smart casual dress, tweed is always a very popular choice.

A country tweed suit or tweed jacket with tweed flat cap always looks very stylish and helps you to feel part of the atmosphere!

Watching the horse's racing and placing bets is fun & exciting ( especially if you win ), but it can also be a long day so it is important to be comfortable in what you are wearing.
